This was my first effort at writing a story. It was a labor of love – and quite an education. Over the period of a year, this story morphed into something completely unexpected. I now look back on the first outlines I spent hours meticulously pounding out, and “Bonds of Brotherhood” holds but a shadow of resemblance. I look at this story as a beginning of a new chapter in my life, and for that reason it will always be special.

Something should be said for the difficulty I had in actually posting this anywhere. The story had finished and was going through the final revision, when a horrible realization hit me. Here I was about to put this story, one that had dominated my thoughts for so many months, onto the internet – where people would actually read it. To be honest, I almost got too scared. It wasn’t until my faithful editor stepped in and calmly told me that she “didn’t edit for quitters”, that I decided otherwise. So, to Meg, you have my deepest gratitude for delivering that much needed kick in the butt.
