Ideas #9 & Other Stuff

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Like my new look?  I always wanted to change it.  Thank you Jo for helping me out. :)

Gosh, the plot bunnies just keep coming! I swear, I’m going have more bunnies than Hoss and Joe did on ‘Ponderosa Explosion!’

So I finally had my first Bonanza dream! However, the dream felt like I was watching the show more than I was actually there (darn :P ), but it was good enough for me to develop into an actual story. So here’s the idea;

Without giving away too much plot spoilers, in this untitled story, it’s the usual Joe-falls-in-love-with-a-woman-who’s-not-exactly-who-he-thinks-she-is. Trust me, I have my own flare to this, but I don’t want to spoil anything. Also, Joe’s friend Mitch Devlin (from Between Heaven and Earth) will be featured in the story as well. That’s all I can say right now.

Now for the other stuff;

I’m STILL on Adam’s date in ‘The Matchmaker.’ The only excuse I have is RL. Work has been very stressful especially this week (rude customers and disgruntled co-workers can really damper one’s mood after a while). The problem with writing a comedy for me is that I have to be in a super good mood, or else it won’t come out funny. I’m hoping that things will get better by the end of the week and I’ll get back in the groove.

There is some good news. My Adam and Rebecca fic is officially back in session! I recently received advice from a nice girl on a forum. Like Rebecca, she’s of Orthodox faith as well. Beforehand, she was mentioning about what was done right and wrong on the episode ‘The Way of Aaron,’ and a lot of the information was very helpful. So I went off and asked her a question that would possibly affect the outcome of my story. The answer I received gave me enough confidence to continue on with the fic.

The way this story is being planned out, I have a feeling that it’ll be my longest Bonanza story thus far. I’ll be taking my time on it and will hopefully have it ready soon. Thank you everyone for your input for this story. And thank you Patina for offering to beta-read this fic once I have it done. :)

My Ideas #8 & Word on Other Stories

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Yes, another one, though the inspiration for this one is a bit different.

In 2002, I began writing fan fiction.  That same year, I got started on three different stories for the same fandom, all were completed by mid-2003.  One story was just a little Christmas story I wrote.  Actually, it wasn’t really a Christmas story, it just happened to take place around that time.

In the story, the main girl of the story was attacked by some thugs, but was quickly rescued by the main guy of the story.  Since then, she couldn’t stop thinking about him.  Eventually, the two end up meeting by chance, got to know each other, and soon fell in love.  However, the girl would end up being kidnapped by the leader of a criminal organization and it’s up to the main guy to save the day.

There’s more to the story than what I just describe of course (however, if you happen to be interested… and can deal with both video-game related stuff and my old habit of constantly switching past and present tense, a problem I’ve thankfully got over, go ahead to my fanfiction.net account and read ‘The Hero of Metro City.’  My pen name is the same as always).

Basically, I want to write a Bonanza version of this story.  Of course, it would be revised a bit more (the original took place in modern time), and there would be more focus on the Cartwrights rather than both the main guy and girl.  I had a lot of fun with the original and wouldn’t mind doing a Bonanza version (course, it would be more realistic too. :P ).

And I do have a title… ‘The Hero.’  How original. :P   Which Cartwright would be the hero? … I have no idea yet. :P

I wish I thought of doing this earlier though, so that I wrote it in time for Christmas.  It’s possible that it’ll be released next year, but who knows… maybe I’ll do a little ‘Christmas in July.’  Besides, I started the original in November 2002, but didn’t finish it until July 2003 (it was multi-chapters after all).

In other news, things got a little hectic, so there have been delays with The Matchmaker due to my off-the-internet life.  For the past two weeks I’ve been sitting on the scene with Adam’s point of view of his blind date.  That’s all right, because I like to get this story done before Valentine’s Day, so I have plenty of time.

Also, it’s possible that I will resume to my Adam and Rebecca story very soon, perhaps after the Holidays. :)

My Ideas #7

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Wow… I just had a plot bunny come along only a few days ago.  Tonight, another one hopped by.  This one came along while thinking of an idea for a Holiday story.

This time, the idea is a What-Happened-Before for the Season 10 episode, ‘Emily.’  Now, I’m not completely fond of Emily herself in this episode, and I prefer other ladies for Joe over her.  However, as the story goes, they once loved each other and even planned to get married.  In my opinion, the episode provided a pretty nice background on what happened between the two before they were separated.

So I thought, ‘Why not write in full detail on that story?’  If this sort of story has been done already for this episode, I don’t know anything about it.

For those who have seen the episode, I’ll be providing the details here.  If not, there will be spoilers. Again, if you haven’t see this episode yet, it’s currently posted on YouTube.

Begin Spoiler

Basically, Joe and Emily met in Monterey about 4 to 5 years ago and fell in love.  They had went on picnics, walks under the moonlight, and I believe a dance was mentioned.  Also, if memory serves me right, the night before Joe left, they talked about marriage.  Joe wouldn’t see or hear from her again until the actual episode.  Ben had even tried to invite Emily and her father up to visit the Ponderosa.  However, the letter was returned unopened.  Joe had even wrote letters to her, but never heard anything.  He eventually went to Monterey himself, only to find that the Andersons left, and the people there weren’t sure where they went.

In the episode, Emily reveals that her father thought of Joe as impulsive and wild, and wanted her to have nothing to do with him.  All of Joe’s letters that were sent to her were burned.  Emily also tried to run away, but was caught and locked in her room.  This is pretty much all the information about their relationship that we got from the episode.

End Spoiler

For the story, I set up the timeline.  I’m going by based on the year of the episode airdate, 1969.  So in ‘Emily,’ it would take place in 1869.  So they would’ve met either in 1864 or 1865.  In this case, I decided on 1864, which would be around Season 5 or 6.  I decided to go in between, so it would take place between the episodes ‘Walter and the Outlaws’ and ‘Invention of a Gunfighter.’

Plus, it makes sense because there was a long period between Tessa (Season 5’s ‘Bullet For A Bride’) and Wendy (Season 7’s ‘Shining In Spain’), two women he had a relationship with.  That gap would be perfect for his time with Emily.

It’ll be some time before I write this, but it does have a title… ‘That Summer in Monterey.

My Ideas #6

Those plot bunnies just keep coming and coming… I think I have enough ideas to keep me busy for at least a year. :P

And tonight, I realized where most of my inspirations come from… those nice BonanzaBrand chats we have every week. The last two had put ideas in my head. One minute, someone will mention something random (mostly Patina. :P ), then suddenly, this bunny just innocently hops along. Two weeks ago it happened, and again tonight.

So basically, I have two ideas to share…

The first is another one of those ‘what happened to Adam?’ stories. Actually, this particular story was more of a collaboration between myself and others at the chat… mostly from others, but I expressed my desire to possibly writing it out as an actual story.

Temporarily titled ‘The Adventures of Adam Cartwright’ (and I WILL come up with a better title eventually), Adam travels around the world. He would start in San Francisco and go west around the world. By the end of the story, he’ll of course return to the Ponderosa. A lot more would happen of course, and it would take a lot of time to study up on the things he could do and the places he would visit (this is coming from someone who has never been anywhere out of the US yet).

The second story, untitled for now, came up at tonight’s chat. You know how much of a pain it is for most parents to teach their teenagers how to drive (so I heard :P )? Now… imagine poor Ben trying to teach Joe to drive a horse and buggy. I don’t remembered the exact words that were said at the chat, but when I saw ‘Joe’ and ‘buggy’ in one sentence, a possible comedy of Joe learning to drive a horse and buggy suddenly came to me. This is one story I look forward to writing :) .

Since so many posts have passed, I’m going to once again list all the ideas I have floating around in my head. This way, no one has to scroll down so much just to see the post. So far, I have two completed stories (”Under The Purple Sky” and “The Forsaken“). Now for the ideas;

  • The Matchmaker – Clementine Hawkins has this idea to play matchmaker for the three Cartwright boys… only it doesn’t completely turn out the way everyone thought it would. This story is currently being worked on and will be completed between now and February.
  • The Longing – The temporarily title for my Adam and Rebecca fic. I have worked on it a lot in the past month, and have done a ton of editing on it. It’s also supposed to have another theory of Adam’s departure from the series. Currently, the fic planning is on hold until I get more inspiration. Besides, when it is done, something tells me that this is going to be a long fic.
  • The Older Sister – A What-Happened-Instead for the episode ‘The Sisters.’ What if Adam was shot instead of Sue Ellen? This fic may possibly be my next one to work on upon completion of The Matchmaker.
  • Healing In The Rain – Another WHN for ‘The Crucible’ with flashbacks based on ‘Journey Remembered.’ Yes, I know, this WHN has been done a million times, but I can’t help it. Besides, it probably won’t be written for a while anyway.
  • The Vigilante – A story I’m pondering over. It mostly focused on Hoss, who meets a man searching for those responsible for the death of his wife and child. Mostly would contain lessons and such, and the focus will stay on Hoss for the majority of the story (if I wanted to focus on the Vigilante himself, I’d write my own original story :P ).
  • Open Arms – A WHN for ‘The Quality of Mercy,’ featuring Joe and Sara. The fic and title was inspired by the song Open Arms by Journey. I did write a small tidbit for the story in a previous post, but it may end up being rewritten.
  • Regrets and Promises – A WHN for Season 7’s ‘Found Child.’ Little Lisa, now grown up, returns to the Ponderosa for a surprise visit. Would take place about 10 years after the episode. The first part of the story would focus on Lisa, but once she’s actually at the Ponderosa, the remaining part of the story would have more focus on the Cartwrights.
  • Bessie Sue – The story of Hoss Cartwright and his encounters with the infamous Bessie Sue Hightower. Will be both pre-Bonanza and main timeline.
  • A Deadly Game of Chance – Two brothers find themselves in a difficult situation when a madman uses them to satisfy his own vengeance. Will contain Russian Roulette, hence the title.
  • In the Hardest of Times – Each of Ben’s sons receive a visit from their mother during some of their own difficult times.

And of course, the two new ones mentioned above.

Postponing A Fic & Other Stuff

Monday, December 1st, 2008

As of today, I decided to postpone the Adam fic.  There was a lot of planning to it than I realized.  I figured that if I tried to take a rest, more inspiration might come to me later.  Until then, I’ll be taking a break from it.

In the meantime, I will be working on ‘The Matchmaker,’ which some seem to be anticipating.  I’ve already written seven-pages worth of the story so far, so it’s going along pretty good.  I might try to write a small story for the holidays, but no inspiration has come to me just yet.  If not, there’s always next year. :)   After The Matchmaker, I’d like to try my hands on ‘The Older Sister,’ my What-Happened-Instead for the episode The Sisters.
